Made using Scandinavian pressure-treated timber, this planter is built to last. The wood is specially treated to resist rot for up to 20 years, meaning upkeep is optional and not a necessity. Perfect for year-round use, it will stand strong through even the harshest British weather.

The timber is pressure treated (also known as tanalised), a process where preservative treatment is forced deep into the wood under high pressure. This protects the timber from rot, fungal decay, insect attack, and moisture damage from the inside out — not just on the surface. Unlike dip-treated products that require constant retreatment, pressure-treated timber provides long-term protection designed to withstand the British climate year after year.

Because of this treatment process, our planter is highly resistant to weathering and can last for up to 20 years with minimal maintenance required. You can leave it natural and allow it to age gracefully, or stain and paint it to suit your garden style.

No need to stain or treat, however if you wish to enrich or change the colour this can be done with a water based stain or outdoor timber paint. Oil based preservatives can also be used to nourish the wood and increase the durability, see below.

To keep your Simply Wood products looking new, protected and fresh we have the stain used in manufacturing available to purchase:-

Please note the drainage slats on the base of the planter to prevent rot. A liner or membrane can be used if required however not essential. You could also recycle the cardboard packaging supplied to support the growing media/compost (remembering to create drainage holes) Alternatively place some rocks/old pot pieces in the base of the planter. This will assist with drainage and prevent plant root rot.
