Sue Kent (verified owner) –
The arbour was delivered as loose pieces, nothing was wrapped or protected at all, hence one of the side trellis panels had completely come away from its supporting leg (only held on with weak staples). There was a lot of green discolouration from the pressure treatment used and some black mould, both of which I was told should have been washed off before sending out.
To get rid of this I sanded every component and then applied 2 coats of good quality waterproofing stain before assembly. It is very heavy and does need 2 people to assemble. I found the seat planks were only nailed to the centre support and popped out as you sat down. I had to screw all the planks down to remedy this. I also found the seat back to be quite high meaning there was a massive gap between the seat and the back so that cushions, books etc. fell through the gap. I shortened both seat back posts by about 3” which rectified this, and at the same time I also tilted it back slightly to make the sitting position more comfortable. My next job is to tilt the seat itself slightly backwards as rain water tends to sit in puddles on the surface.
All in all it has been a lot of work to prepare, assemble and adjust this arbour to suit but it does look good and is quite sturdy once complete.
